Summer Reading Tips from Mrs. Kreisler

Don’t forget that summer is a great time to keep reading and to keep learning!  Here are some suggestions for spending your summer time wisely!

1.  Sign up for your local library’s summer reading program  - check out information at

2.  Try to read between 4-5 (or more!) books this summer, get a magazine subscription, listen to a book on tape, visit the library often

3.  Get outside and play!  Increasing your physical activity will help with concentration and academic achievement – go swimming, walk your dog, play a game, ride your bike!

4.  Keep a journal and write about your summer activities

5.  Limit your screen time!  - Don’t spend too much time on your cell phone, computer, TV, or video game system

Don’t be part of the “Summer Slide”!!!

According to research, students can lose up to two months’ worth of curriculum content over the summer.   Literacy is a particular problem: without being actively engaged in reading, a student’s vocabulary, fluency, and writing skills can take a serious decline during the summer months.

Have a happy, safe, and wonderful summer!  ~ Mrs. Kreisler
